Music Therapy.

The sound of music playing can be heard before every game, both on the pitch and in the dressing room. Each team and players will have their own particular style of music and favourite tunes that help them get in the mood for the match.

Scientists from the Max Planck Institute in Germany, found that listening to 50 minutes of dance music, could reduce the level of stress hormones and improve the performance of the immune system.

They took 300 volunteers and played 50 minutes of happy uplifting dance music and compared them to a group with no music. They found the levels of cortisol dropped and the amount of IgA increased in the group listening to music.

They did not test which type of music worked best, though other studies have suggested exciting, energetic music, in keeping with your own personal preferences, can have the most positive impact on your Health Keeper.

Your job as Manager, is to find music that gives you the “feel-good” factor, or sends shivers down your spine and stirs up positive emotions. (See Players Playlist).

Prof. Daniel J. Levitin, of McGill University’s Psychology Department, looked at over 400 scientific papers relating to music and its health benefits. He concluded there was:

“compelling evidence that musical interventions can play a health care role in settings ranging from operating rooms to family clinics,” “But even more importantly, we were able to document the neurochemical mechanisms by which music has an effect in four domains: management of mood, stress, immunity, and as an aid to social bonding.”

Listening to music increases the Natural Killer Cells; the armed and dangerous players that help to get rid of bacteria and cancer cells.

Listening to music before surgery can reduce stress more than medication.

Listening to music can also reduce Cortisol/stress levels and therefore blood sugars.

All of these help you to play better!
